Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition - 1 of 25

“The heart of a father is the masterpiece of nature”  Antoine François Prévost

In 1996 Mr Bodo Buschmann, the founder of Brabus, took out his latest creation – the Brabus 7.3S based on the R129 Mercedes SL600, for its first official road test on the local autobahn. However Mr Buschmann decided to leave one peice of the car back at the factory – the bonnet. It was no mistake.

When you create a car that has a 7.3L displacement with one of the largest capacity twin turbo V12 engines ever fitted to a road car, you can understand why you may want to show off that engine in its full glory.

Little did Mr Buschmann know that a photograph taken during that test drive would come to capture the essence of his company for generations to come.

Bodo Buschmann sadly passed away in 2018, but his legacy has been honourably carried on by his son, Constantin Buschmann, who has been successfully navigating and further developing the company in recent years.

The company’s recent unveiling of the Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition – an SL based on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 is a tribute to the spirit of Bodo Buschmann and his love for SL’s. Limited to just 25 vehicles worldwide, the 750 will be a rare sight indeed. With a price of around £287,000 owners of the 750 will be in a very exclusive club and will have the pleasure of driving one of the most unique and powerful SL’s available.

Powered by a twin turbo 4.0L V8 developing 750hp and 900Nm of torque, the roadster will hit 62mph in 3.3 seconds and is electronically limited to 196mph. The exterior adorns a host of  carbon fibre bodywork upgrades alongside a custom made rear diffuser which shows off the quad pipes of the high performance exhaust system. New turbos, an extensive tuning programme and the new exhaust makes the 750 eat the standard Mercedes SL63 AMG for breakfast.

As a further nod to the company’s history, the car features a new version of the famous three spoke Monoblock II alloys which Brabus became renowned for during the late eighties. With 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear, the Monoblocks fill out the arches – all wrapped in Continental SportContact 7 performance tyres.

In true original style, black on black is the colour scheme and the interior has been given the complete Brabus Masterpiece treatment using a quilted pattern – all personal favourites of the late Bodo Buschmann.

In describing the 750, Brabus makes reference to Back to the Future and its easy to see why. The 750 is a vehicle which transverses two time periods – two generations. Its a car that celebrates its historic origins whilst it exceeds in delivering all the performance, design and comfort that anyone could want in a high performance vehicle today. Brabus have been able to proudly embrace their past whilst courageously accelerating towards the future.

It seems that the spirit of Bodo’s SL73 lives on and at the heart of it all is simply a son paying tribute to his father. This is a proper family story and if Bodo Buschmann were here today, we think he’d be very pleased with the 750.

Brabus’ historical DNA is clearly present in Bottrop and the 750’s story can be summarised by the words of the 14th century English poet William Langland who wrote;

“Like father like son: Every good tree maketh good fruits.”
