Lister Stealth by Lister Cars: Why this 666bhp SUV should be on your radar.

The University of Cambridge is internationally recognised for cultivating some of the most influential people of our time and Charles Darwin is no exception. Darwin’s theory of evolution states that all species arise and develop through natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual’s ability to compete and survive. i.e. that new species arise naturally, by a process of evolution. Could this theory also apply to the motor car?

A few miles east of the University, nestled in the Cambridgeshire countryside is a firm that proves the theory of evolution – automotive evolution to be precise. George Lister Engineering Ltd aka Lister Cars have been involved in tuning and racing Jaguars since the mid 1950’s.

Founded in 1954 by Brian Lister, the Lister Motor Company became one of Britain’s most successful racing car companies by consistently winning races at circuits in the UK, overseas and in the USA. In 1993 the company broke new records with the launch of a new car, the Lister Storm. The Storm used the largest V12 engine ever fitted to a production road car since World War 2, a 7.0L Jaguar engine based on the one used in the Jaguar XJR-9 which raced at the Le Mans 24hr. A racing version of the Storm – the GTS also went onto to compete in various motorsport races and won the FIA GT Championship in 2000.

One of the company’s more recent creations is the Lister Stealth, a vehicle that has evolved from the Jaguar F-Pace SVR. The regular F-Pace SVR produces 542bhp from its 5.0 supercharged engine, however Lister has managed to up this to 666bhp, 881Nm of torque. 0-60 is achieved in 3.6 seconds and an autobahn annihilating top speed of 195mph is available, crowning the Stealth as Britain’s fastest SUV. This accolade is achieved through a series of enhancements including; upgraded duel supercharger pulleys, custom built intercoolers, performance air filtration, a custom stainless steel quad exhaust system and a proprietary Lister Engine Management System. Naturally the brakes have been upgraded and the exterior sees a new carbon fibre front bumper, front splitter, larger air intakes, a carbon rear diffuser – all sitting on Lister designed 23in forged wheels developed with Vossen.

The customisations also extend to the interior featuring premium Bridge of Weir Nappa leather with 36 colour choices available, alongside stitching options covering all aspects of the cabin.

What Lister have done here is take the core genetics of the F-Pace SVR and build on that to produce a vehicle that not only is able to outperform its competitors (it beat the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin Vantage and McLaren 570 GT in a drag race at VMAX200) but do it in a way that caters for the individual and bespoke requirements of their customers – all at a price point which is around half the price of the competition. Furthermore, Stealth customers will be part of a very exclusive club as only 100 Stealth’s will be built. This ability to combine luxury, performance and exclusivity at a price which undercuts its competitors is a remarkable achievement and why we think the Stealth has to be considered if you are in the market for a high performance SUV.

The Stealth is an evolution on all levels and proves that Darwin’s theory is alive and well in this vehicle. If Mr Darwin were around today, we reckon he’d be eyeing up the Stealth and we like to think he’d probably be a Lister Cars customer too.
